The Graduate School of Business & Advanced Technology Management students from Assumption University of Thailand (AU) hosted an innovative Lego Serious Play workshop on March 1, 2025. This interactive session, aimed at fostering creativity and collaborative problem-solving, brought together graduate students and faculty in an engaging, hands-on learning experience.

Facilitated by Prof. Dr. Rafaela Kunz, an experienced innovation consultant and Professor of International Management, Technology, and Innovation at Hochschule Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Germany, the workshop provided a unique opportunity for participants to utilize LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®. This experiential process was designed to prompt dialogue, encourage reflection, and develop problem-solving skills through guided, hands-on activities. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® helps unlock creativity by encouraging the use of imagination and providing participants with the tools to translate abstract concepts into tangible models.

Prof. Dr. Kunz, a seasoned professional in Innovation Management and Product Innovation, with a recent Ph.D. in Open Innovation in the Biotech Sector from London South Bank University, UK. led the workshop. The session saw active participation from graduate students and faculty members from AU GS-BATM, who used Lego bricks not just for play, but to express complex ideas and explore creative solutions at the personal, team, and systems levels.
“The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology is a powerful tool for fostering innovative thinking and collaboration,” said Prof. Dr. Kunz. “It was inspiring to witness the participants’ ability to transform abstract ideas into visual representations, which facilitated deeper discussion and reflection.”

The workshop was not only an academic exercise but also a fun and stimulating experience that encouraged students and faculty to engage, share ideas, and strengthen relationships. Feedback from participants emphasized the workshop’s success in nurturing creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork skills—essential elements for success in today’s fast-paced, global business environment.
AU’s Graduate School of Business and Advanced Technology Management continues to prioritize forward-thinking educational approaches that empower students to become creative leaders in the ever-evolving world of business.
