Last month as appeared on AU website and local press, MSME International Business management and Marketing major students made a stunning victory for themselves and Assumption University when one AU team, ‘Chemericial’, won 1st prize of B100.000 and another,‘Bravjofan’, won CSR Award at the L’Oreal 3rd round competition. This year the winning team(s) from each country had to enter the regional round for selection to the L’Oreal world final round.
Last week 19 top winning teams from 12 countries entered the Asia-Pacific Regional Round and L’Oreal picked 10 teams from 8 countries: Thailand(1), India, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines) to enter the world challenge, L’OREAL BRANDSTORM 2017, in Paris.
As expected, the AU Team is one of the 10 Teams from Asia to compete in a world contest in June.

AU Student Team in Paris, L’Oreal Brandstorm 2017
Three AU BBA students are about to travel to Paris on June 12 for L’OREAL World Finals on June 15 in Paris as the sole Thailand Representative team. They are going to compete against 40 other winner teams from other countries, all competing for 2 top awards: Tech Award 10,000 Euro, Brand Award 10,000 Euro; and CSR Trophy 5,000 Euro.
This year L’Oreal theme of the contest, they call it ‘the Game’, is “disrupt men’s grooming with life-changing innovation”. Some given key words include new product, breakthrough service, digital solutions and connected technologies.
The Brand Award will reward the most innovative product and strategy for connecting with the consumer--- a new product that doesn’t exist in the L’Oreal portfolio and its competitive brands! Moreover, a fully integrated marketing campaign that can establish a strong, long-term relationship with customers is another criterion.
In addition, the target group of the customer is the millennial—those 18 to 25 years of age.
This is a real challenge. For those teams selected, there is neither luck nor favoritism in winning. They have to deliver a well prepared, well thought-out presentation for 10 minutes plus being able to handle 3 questions or more from the judges.
As for our AU team, they have come a long way, being all girls but had to create a product for men! Besides, it is two Malaysians and one Thai working together to come up with a new innovative product—3 in 1 Bullet for men in face, body and hair care product. These three girls have proven Einstien’s famous quote: “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” It moves beyond national boundary to cross-cultural and global setting. What more is that their product is research-based. It is an answer to new trends in life styles of male millennial.
All three of them; Veerin, Belle, and Journey, all said that at first they never thought they would win, “We just wanted to gain experience.”; “We had to apply what we learn.”, and “we had to think outside the box and teamwork is so important”.
To win CSR Award, the AU Team “Bravjofan” comes up with 3-in-1 hair styling that combines hair serum, hair wax, and hair cushion. They use biodegradable plastic packaging and run a campaign of ‘Micro-plastic Awareness Creator” to raise awareness in plastic waste problem.
L’Oreal is the world’s largest cosmetic company and has been hosting this challenge since 1992 where AU students have been participating for over ten years.
Why L’Oreal? L'Oréal S.A. is a French cosmetics company headquartered in Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine with a registered office in Paris. L’Oreal is the world's largest cosmetics company and has developed activities in the field of cosmetics, concentrating on hair colour, skin care, sun protection, make-up, perfume and hair care; the company is active in dermatology, toxicology, tissue engineering, and biopharmaceutical research fields and is the top nanotechnology patent-holder in the United States.
